Liuyu Ivy Chen is a poet, writer, and translator currently studying pre-modern Chinese literature at Columbia University. Born and raised in the mountainous region of central Zhejiang, China, she received her BA from Beijing Language and Culture University and an MFA in poetry from New York University. Her writing integrates the personal with the political, rooted in her experience as a third daughter, immigrant, and mother.
Previously, she co-founded TransWords Translations LLC, where she translated exhibition materials and human rights reports for arts and nonprofit organizations across North America, Europe, and Asia. She also served as program coordinator for the Getty Foundation's Connecting Art Histories initiative-Beyond the Northern Aegean.
Her current research interests include late imperial vernacular fiction and Sino-Mediterranean contact, with a particular fascination for the concepts of time, water, and the South. She lives in Brooklyn with her adorable son. You can reach her at [email protected].
